about

Ah - great show...

"Quite how a band as gifted as Amplifier can still be setting up their own shows, is beyond us. Surely they deserve more. But set up they do and after a very minor gaff with lead singer Sel’s mic stand; which threatened to interrupt a classic from their debut, the set is absolutely flawless. With the venue still not at capacity, a demonic bass line pulsates out of the speakers at 815pm. The four members meander on stage, with newly acquired ex-Oceansize six stringer Steve Durose picking up the high end notes, they immediately kick out a noticeably rounder sound than before (if that was possible). Psychedelia transcends the room with a heady mix of old and new. The fretwork is free flowing, the choruses soaring and we’re left slack jawed and drooling as clean cuts from their epic back catalogue are played out before our eyes. Heads nod in time with the grooves and the band acknowledge the best show of the tour so far. Who are we to argue because quite honestly, this could be the best show of the year. With a foreboding Octopus back drop, anticipation was high and the band really didn’t disappoint. The sounds they generate from their instruments are mind blowing at times; couple that with perfect progressive execution and you have such a talented group of artists that are so tight they squeak. They could’ve played into the early hours they were that into their craft last night. Truth be told we all wanted more, more, more; and with a quite spectacular encore in which guitars were thrown to the ground and high fives shared with an adoring crowd, they were literally walking on water. Breathtaking. (10)"
